ADHD Moments – Homeschooling Lessons

Okay! This is what I’ve learned from homeschooling….since we officially started last week on Wednesday.

  1. I’m convinced that I am not the only person in this house with ADHD…how exciting! (~positivity over negativity~)
  2. Hyperfocus and planning go hand in hand. Thank you Lord!
  3. So….I figured out that I actually have to “teach” Kindergarten and 5th grade ELA (English Language Arts) & Math. We aren’t just talking hand them a sheet and send them on their way…we’re talking explanations, white board notes, examples, reading, problem solving…which means I actually have to read, take notes, and LEARN … ALL OVER AGAIN (…sooo a w e s o m e…Right? …I mean, how did I think this was going to go? Well I didn’t really think it through because ADHD equals impulsivity which means I just jumped right in with the grace of God and Philippians 4:13 which says I can do ALL THINGS through CHRIST which strengthens me.)
  4. PRAYER IS PRIORITY | PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL | SLEEP IS NECCESSARY
  5. Kindergarten Math is easy | 5th Grade Math is more complicated than high school Algebra. Anyone know how to avoid the tears of frustration? Today we started the day with math, I think it helped…A LOT. I mean, what was I thinking not starting with math the other days? I actually have it on our schedule to start with math but it looks like I just “forgot” …. story of my ADHD life! Wouldn’t change it for a thing!

Yep, that’s about it. We are fully going with God’s flow on this homeschooling thing. Monday was almost horrendous and today was AMAZING! Thank you Lord!

I am thankful for this experience I get to have with my three kiddos. One thing is for sure. They will NEVER FORGET this school year. Haha!
